Which jobs won’t be remote in the future?

I came across this video of an excavator operator in Germany digging in Korea. This lead me to think, with the advent of new tech and 5G - what jobs won’t become remote in the future?

I consider the video as more of a demo of the possibilities of 5G. Albeit, it really got me thinking about global talent distribution of various skilled workers among varying industries.

Remote work already increases productivity by expanding the pool of talent and harnessing time zones. This amounts to quicker build times, more productivity and higher quality outcomes.

Emerging markets in Africa, Asia and South America are growing at such a rapid pace, they’re shifting world order away from 'The West' (US and Europe). These regions have entered into a ‘golden age’ of growth and wealth. However, they’re growing so fast, it's resulted in a huge skill gap in particular industries

President Joko Widodo of Indonesia has announced plans of moving it’s capital city from Jakarta to East Kalimantan province on Borneo island. This project isn’t a small one. It means hundreds of billions of dollars will be spent to build an entire capital city from scratch.

Imagine for a second, a highly skilled excavator operator in Padstow, a tiny civil parish on the north coast of Cornwall, England could remotely assist in the excavation of East Kalimantan province on Borneo island. 7,306 miles away from the comfort of their own home

The 8 hour difference would mean at 5pm in Borneo, an excavator operator based in Padstow could login to their JCB, interact with the PM's brief, and work their normal 9-5.

Let's all just take a second to appreciate that possibility...

Imagine spending Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday working on Indonesia’s new capital city. And on Thursday and Friday, they spend finishing up Egypts replacement of crumbling capital of Cairo…

This lead me to think, with the advent of new tech and 5G - What jobs won’t become remote in the future?
